I wrote this short article on the Overtown Rhythm & Arts Festival 2013 for Miami New Times issue week June 20-26, 2013. Unfortunately there was not enough room to write about all the accomplishments of D.A. Dorsey, but he was also the guy who sold what later came to be known as Fisher Island to Miami Beach developer Carl Fisher. Today it is one of the wealthiest points in the county. He also built the first black hotel in Miami, The Dorsey, and also built the Negro Savings Bank. In addition, he donated lands to the City of Miami for parks and schools that still stand today. Dana A. Dorsey is an American hero.
