Welcome to the Underline, Come back in a few years... |
So many death traps on the Miami Underline linear park, bike, walking, and e-mobility trail, much of which is blockaded and under construction, and portions have been for years, that i rode it end to end yesterday from brickell to dadeland to see what's really going on, and here's what I think.
I don't know who is in charge of the various debacles involved in the current state of the old M Path bike trail, which was perfectly great, but they're doing a terrible job.
Little regard for dangerous intersections, bad construction logistics / timeline, strange twists and turns that can cause accidents between pedestrians and electric vehicles, everything getting dramatically worse the further south you travel, zero regard for the safety of whoever may currently use it insofar as the blocking of the path means you are pushed into eight lanes of US1, no shoulder. Various obstacles that may decapitate an active individual taller than 5'11". Poor environmental planning with blind turns created by pathmaking into the burning eye of the laser's face of the sun. What else. Plenty.
All the money looks like it has gone mostly into Brickell, even though far more vehicular visibility in the form of millions of cars travelling US1 evidences an over-concern with presenting optics of achievement to a limited audience while failing to meet even the most basic conditions of the stated mission, a single travelable 10-mile path, which was what was there when the underline started, but has not existed since it began.
Big chokeouts, blockades, fences, dust, dirt, work detritus in the Coral Gables and Douglas Road Metrorail Station areas, surprisingly. Bad dangers at the Coconut Grove Station construction zone, and the same from around South Miami, to Dadeland North, and SW 88 street, where a final insult of at least an acre-wide construction storage zone sits mostly empty and blocked off.
I can read the pr, but who's really in charge of this project? An idiot with a hard hat, a cheapskate with a briefcase, a slob who has never walked a path in their life, a scammer, a schemer, a lazy day dreamer, an embezzler, a fraudster, a thief, a robber, a bureaucrat, a plutocrat, a sadomasochistic schadenfreude obsessed blind narcissistic dummycrat? It's a rhetorical satirical question.
I don't know the answer, but they're messing up.
Typical local government baloney bragging about what a great job they've done. Don't believe it.
P.s. - if and when the inevitable accidents between most likely electric vehicles and pedestrians occur, and a savvy accident lawyer is able to convince a jury of bad design elements, who will be held legally liable, the city, the county, the friends of the underline? I don't know the answer, but it is a pertinent question that will most likely rear its ugly head in the not too distant future, but obviously in the interest of humanity, hopefully not at all
